Port Cares Back to School Campaign

For Immediate Release –  August 27nd 2013

Fifty four children will go back to school with supplies provided by some very generous businesses and local people from the community.   Canadian Tire Port Colborne partnered with Port Cares and raised $800.00 towards this project.  As well, Staples, Welland and the Bargain Shop in Port Colborne and many generous residents donated back to school items and financial support.   We now have a waiting list of children needing assistance.  Port Cares will accept donations of school supplies; and/or backpacks.    Financial  donations can be made at 92 Charlotte Street and a tax receipt will be issued for all donations of $20.00 and over.

All donations can be dropped off at Port Cares, 92 Charlotte Street Port Colborne between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm and Thursday until 8:00 p.m.

R.O.C the Night at the Smokin’ Buddha a Success!

Port Cares Centre wishes to thank the organizers and everyone who supported the first annual R.O.C the Night fund-raising event on August 20th. Cathy Boggio and friends Theresa Pizzo and Tracey Ottaviano held an amazing event at the Smokin’ Buddha in support of programs for children and youth at the Port Cares Reach Out Food Centre. Over $ 9500.00 was raised thanks to the 105 people who attended the event. Delicious appetizers created by Chef Jake Redmond were served by the friendly staff throughout the evening while Gary Smith rocked the night away on his guitar. For over 21 years the Car Show has been a great part of Canal Days and organiser Carole Huffman has once again been collecting food and money for the Food Bank at our Reach Out Food Centre. This year the Car Show donated over $600.00 in cash and over 324 pounds of food to assist those in our community in need. ROC the Night at Smokin’ Buddha Aug. 20th and Golf at Emerald Pines Aug.24th

We  are pleased to announce that we have 2 wonderful opportunities for you to contribute to your community this month. These events are the brain child of local citizens who have stepped up to the challenge of assisting those in need in our community by organising and hosting a fund-raising event for Port Cares. Please give them your support.

On August 20th,2013 the Smokin’ Buddha will be rocking to the music of Gary Smith from 7 pm to 10 pm. The food promises to be spectacular since they have the owner of the Smokin Buddha Kevin Echlin in the kitchen cooking up that evening’s menu. This event is hosted by Cathy Boggio of Boggio Group of Pharmacies and friends in support of the children and youth programs at the Reach Out Food Centre on Nickel St.

“It is our hope to provide more programs especially to the children that come through the doors. It is only when we give these kids a different outlook and hope that they strive to do better and be better that we can build a community that we are all proud to be a part of. As we have heard many times “It takes a village to raise a child” A town or city is judged by how we take care of the less fortunate and I believe we can do better in Port Colborne.” Cathy Boggio

Seating to this event is limited. Tickets are $100.00 each and can be purchased at the Smokin Buddha and at Port Cares. ROC the night
