60 Kids are “Back to School” with brand new supplies thanks to outpouring of community support

It was raining back packs and school supplies at Port Cares over the last few weeks in preparation for our annual  Back to School  Campaign, thanks to generous donations from many individuals, community groups and businesses. 100 back packs were stuffed with supplies and delivered to the Reach Out Centre for distribution this week. So far 60 kids have received the back packs and supplies. Parents are encouraged to visit our 61 Nickel Street site or to contact program organizer Shelby Hemingway at 905-834-3629 ext. 264 if they still need assistance.

The youngest donor was a 4 year old boy, James Sutton who wanted  to help other kids start off school right with new lunch kits, crayons and supplies. Thanks to him and these generous donors many children and teens in our community will be starting off the school year with a smile on their faces.

Our Food Bank needs your help! We need peanut butter, baby food, fruits & veggies, hygiene items.

In July our Food Bank  provided 547 individuals with food.“One hundred and seventy four of those were children,” said Amanda Upper, Supervisor of the Reach Out Centre pointing out that the Port Cares Food Bank is facing a constant need. During the summer months some families face a greater need as their children normally  rely on school lunch and/or breakfast programs for assistance.
